Hastings and Rother U3A

At the AGM held on Monday, July 28, at St Peter’s Centre, Bexhill, chairman Sarah Loynes presented cheques for £275 each to two local charities: the Sara Lee Trust and Fellowship of St Nicholas (FSN).

The funds were raised by holding a raffle at the U3A’s 25th Anniversary Celebratory Cream Tea ‘Putting on the Ritz’ in June. Members Veronica Goddard and Molly Green accepted the cheques on behalf of the respective charities and expressed grateful thanks.

The Sara Lee Trust works to provide free complementary and creative therapies and counselling to local people with a life-threatening illness, including patients from St Michael’s Hospice. The FSN, which has been established for 75 years, currently runs 17 projects for children and young people, including nurseries and a bereavement service.

Presentations were also made to two members who have sadly decided to step down: Julie Windus, who has dealt with initial enquiries for five years, and Sarah Loynes herself, who has been chairman for the past two years. Their work and achievements are much appreciated.

Following the presentations, members enjoyed an afternoon tea prepared by the catering team. A magnificently decorated celebration cake was the eye-catching centrepiece.
