Hastings and District Anglo-French Club

L’ART du vitrail, our meeting on January 21, was an illustrated talk in French about the art of stained glass.

With the help of a video, Fiona Wright took us through the various meticulous stages of creating a stained glass window - from the initial design, through cutting and staining the glass right to mounting it.

The video showed her husband Alan, a well-known local artist, making the beautiful millennium window that is now part of the Fishermen’s museum. In addition, the church caretaker came to open the church itself so that we could see other examples of his work there. There was plenty to talk about over coffee afterwards.

Our next meeting, on Tuesday, February 4 will be Matisse en Corse, a talk in French about the artist’s time in Corsica. As usual, all are welcome and the venue is Holy Redeemer Church hall in Upper Church Road, St Leonards at 2.30pm.
