OUR meeting on January 7 was to celebrate the French equivalent of Twelfth Night - the Fête des Rois.
Thanks to the excellent baking of our chairman, Sheila Bristow, we were treated to traditional galettes. Made with puff pastry and a rich almond filling, they were delicious.
Following the custom, each had a ‘fève’ hidden in it and the lucky people who found these became our King and Queen for the afternoon, wearing a crown each. #
By combining this event with the celebration of Saint Vincent (though this saint day is actually on January 22) we gave ourselves a good excuse for having wine tasting too, a welcome addition to the galettes.
The subject of our next meeting on Tuesday, January 21 will be L’art du vitrail, an illustrated talk in French about stained glass. The speaker will be Fiona Wright whose husband is a well-known local artist working with glass.
As usual, all are welcome and the venue is Holy Redeemer church hall in Upper Church Road, St Leonards at 2.30pm.
