HOT on the heels of the news Hastings will be treated to a visit from the Olympic torch, an Olympian visited a junior school to encourage pupils to take up sport.
Children at St Paul’s CE School welcomed gymnast Rebecca Wing to lessons as part of a sponsored fitness fundraiser.
The 18-year-old gymnast came sixth in the World Championships back in 2007 and took part in the 2008 Olympics for Great Britain.
Her visit was organised by the Sports For School team - an organisation which tries to get more children to participate in sport in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.
And, after cheering on the children during their fundraising, the teenager performed a routine during assembly.
A spokesman for the school said: “The children were inspired by Rebecca’s routine and were excited to have their questions answered by her.
“We hope the children will be motivated to take up a sporting activity.”
The money raised will be spent on new sporting equipment for the school.
