DEVELOPERS have been given the green light to build 14 flats on a former rectory building on The Ridge.

Mayfair Property Renovations applied to build the development on the site close to Helenswood Upper School.

A care home that was on the site was demolished earlier this year.

Local residents argued there had not been enough time for consultation, the building would impact on the character and appearance of the area, and the lack of a need for new two bedroom flats in the town.

Councillor Matthew Beaver proposed the motion and said he believed it was a good idea to move the site away from houses towards Helenswood Upper School.

Councillor Peter Pragnell seconded and members unanimously approved the application.
