Fight to save wood not over, says group

CAMPAIGNERS calling for the protection of Speckled Wood have vowed to carry on fighting, even though the council has given approval for it to be protected from development.

Ore Community Land Trust said the council’s stance in its draft Development Management Plan was a big step forward but added the fight is not yet over.

Two small development sites are proposed as shown on the plan and the area of land next to Victoria Avenue, which has planning permission for 51 homes, is excluded.

Ian Sier, chairman of Ore Community Land Trust, said: “We are very pleased that Hastings Borough Council has listened to the voice of local people and responded to eight years of campaigning by our organisations and other groups, by proposing very substantial changes in the draft Local Plan, but we are not complacent and recognise the work that is still to be done. We will be mounting public campaigns against any new planning applications that may be submitted and against the renewal of planning permission that will be required for the 51 home development on the land next to Victoria Avenue.” More information is on www.orecommunitylandtrust.org or by email from ore.clt@hotmail.com.
