A CHARITY event netted more than £300 for a cancer charity.

Junkanoo UK, an organisation that runs craft classes for children, and Hastings Trust’s Community Enablers team, hosted the fundraiser at the Chatsworth Hotel in Carlisle Parade on Mother’s Day (March 10). It was also held to mark Women’s International Day, which fell on March 8, and opened by Mayor Alan Roberts.

Genevieve Fernandes, from Junkanoo UK, said: “There was so much to see and do that demonstrated the wonder of women as well as entertaining the whole family. We had singing, Flamenco dancing, face painting by Genni Fernandes, an art exhibition by many different artists. There was also delicious food from Formosa and Urban BBQ, which donated £53 at the event.

“DJ Funky Francis from London kept us fit on the dance floor with Sparks Dance Crew. We are pleased to announce that we made £300 on the day for Cancer Research UK and wish to thank all who joined us on the day to support the event and all of those behind the scenes who gave up so much time and energy.”
