SOME 19 families graduated on June 3 at Castledown School from an inspiring education programme, Families and School Together (FAST), set up by national charity Save the Children. The graduation was attended by Cllr Alan Roberts and it was his last mayoral duty before he was replaced by Bruce Dowling on Wednesday, June 4.
Aiming to help parents support their children’s education, the FAST programme works by strengthening relationships within families and between families and schools. Developed in the US by Professor Lynn McDonald, it is endorsed by the United Nations and it is now run by Save the Children throughout the UK. Families take part in a range of activities, such as singing and playing games like charades, which encourage communication skills.
