A DISABLED young athlete rode rough-shod over the competition to scoop top prize in a dressage show.
Joe Roud, 11, of Hill Road, Fairlight, won his first major show, taking top spot in his class in the regional dressage show in Hickstead.
“I love riding, it’s my thing,” said Joe, who is autistic and has moderate learning difficulties. “Billy and the people at Pebsham are my friends. It’s what I enjoy the most.”
Joe was one of a group of youngsters from the Pebsham 1066 Riding for the Disabled group, who offer horse riding tuition and therapy for local riders aged five and over with physical and learning disabilities.
The group are holding a pet show on Bank Holiday Monday (August 29), to raise funds for new equipment.
Entries for the dog show, held at Pebsham Equestrian Centre, will be accepted from 1pm on the day. Classes include Best Condition of Long and Short Coat and Best Golden Oldie.
