Events to help beat loneliness among the elderly in town

HASTINGS and St Leonards Seniors’ Forum is planning new events to help combat loneliness among the elderly.

The group is planning to organise a Saturday venue providing a place where people can get together to socialise over a cuppa and cake.

In the meantime, the next social event organised by the forum and open to all, including non-members, is a free Christmas coffee morning on a Christmas theme on Tuesday (November 27) from 10am to noon at the Friends Meeting House, South Terrace.

Free tea parties for the over 70s are being held at Bethune Court, in Boscobel Road, St Leonards, today (Friday), on December 11, and January 17, all from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Those who would like to attend should ring 01424 719393.

Business manager Rhona-Lee Emmerich said: “I am hoping that by arranging as much positive and festive events as we can manage we will be able to beat the winter blues.” A Christmas market is planned for December 3 and Bethune Court is also offering special rates for Christmas Day stays.
