A teenager has raised hundreds of pounds for a charity which helps bereaved children.
Essie Mitchell, 17, who lives in Hastings, presented £565 to Mollie Green MBE, the chairman of the Fellowship of St Nicholas (FSN) on behalf of Dragonflies. The charity offers support to bereaved youngsters who have lost a parent or family member or friend.
Essie collected the money after running in the Battle 10k race in September. She lost her father when she was eight years old. He died after experiencing a fall, which caused a massive brain haemorrhage.
She said: “Dragonflies was a great help to me and I am always willing to help them so that other children can continue to get the support they need when they lose someone they love.” Her mum Jayne said: “I am so proud of her, this is her fourth event in which she has raised funds for Dragonflies, we thank our very kind friends who have sponsored her. Dragonflies was such a help to me as well too, as I was able to deal with my grief knowing that Essie was getting the best help available to her. One of the lessons she learned was to celebrate the happy times, not just the sad occasions, so dad’s birthday is always a great event with friends.”
