ESCC waives fee for conversion of partnerships

COUPLES wanting to celebrate the conversion of their civil partnership to marriage in East Sussex can take advantage of a money saving deal.

The Government has announced that from December 10, 2014, those who entered into a civil partnership before same sex marriage became legal can convert to a marriage, but must pay to do so.

The cost of the conversion is yet to be announced.

East Sussex County Council has agreed to waive that fee for couples who book a celebratory ceremony with the East Sussex Registration Service to mark the occasion any time before December 10, 2015. The law stipulates that all conversions must take place at the office of the Superintendent Registrar in Eastbourne, but the celebratory ceremony can take place almost anywhere in the county.

Cllr Chris Dowling, said:

“A celebratory ceremony is the perfect way to mark the conversion to marriage and gives couples the chance to reaffirm their commitment and celebrate their marriage in front of loved ones.”
