A COMMUNITY centre in St Leonards has installed new solar panels on the roof of its premises in a bid to save energy and cut down on its carbon footprint.

Southwater Area Community Centre in Stainsby Street has a PV solar panel system installed, which includes an LED display showing the amount of electricity produced and the total amount of carbon saving.

Patrick Bennett, centre manager, said: “With the increasing awareness of global warming and the need to find alternative energy sources we feel that the installation of solar energy at the community centre will help the local residents’ awareness of the potential benefits and costs involved at a local level.”

If anyone would like to visit the centre to take a look at the system or to pick up information on renewable energy systems ring 01424 461414 or email support@southwatercentre. Full details are also on www.southwatercentre.org.
