Hastings Borough Council leader Cllr Peter Chowney said: “We are very grateful to the Hastings Chinese community for putting on the New Year celebrations in Priory Meadow last weekend, as we embark on the year of the monkey.

“Along with the recent Fat Tuesday music festival, Chinese New Year marks the beginning of the Hastings festival season, stretching all the way through to the Herring Fair in November.

“But this colourful and lively event is also a reminder of the cultural diversity we now have in Hastings, a town where over 40 languages are spoken, and where immigrant communities have been so important in contributing to Hastings’ continuing economic regeneration.”
