Embroiderers’ Guild East Sussex Branch

MARCH was a very busy month for our branch despite the cold weather.

Wendy Dolan led a full-day workshop on Saturday, March 2 entitled Architectural Textures. This was a great fun day which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and I am sure we will be inviting Wendy back in the future for another workshop.

During our regular meeting on Saturday, March 16, Claire Buckley, a local textile artist and branch member gave an extremely interesting illustrated talk covering a trip she made in November 2012 with the Embroiderers’ Guild to India entitled India - Inspiration through visual overload. It soon became apparent why the title of her talk was so appropriate. We were also privileged to be able to see and admire the many textiles Claire had collected on her journey.

Our next meeting is on Saturday, April 20 and comprises a morning session commencing at 10am devoted to Stitch and Chat where Marion Cantrell will be demonstrating more goldwork techniques between 11am and 11.30am.

This is the second of three Master Classes in Goldwork techniques Marion has arranged for our branch. The Stitch and Chat Sessions are exactly that, we stitch and we chat, but more important it is an opportunity to learn new skills or brush up on those not used for a while.

Our afternoon meeting commences at 1.45pm and we are delighted to welcome back Jennifer Hughes who will be talking about the huge variety of textiles from many different groups in Burma. Jennifer’s talks are always very interesting and she always brings along textiles for us to view, so please try to come along.

Our branch meets on the third Saturday in the month at St Peter’s Community Centre in the Old Town of Bexhill. If you would like any further information about our Branch please contact either our Chairman Beverley Blanch on 01825 765267 or our programme secretary Brenda Amberge on 01424 731371.
