PUPILS were celebrating this week after their school was given a bumper £50,000 cheque.
St Paul’s CE Primary School in Horntye Road, St Leonards, was given the cash to build a new community room, complete with better disabled access and cooking facilities alongside the usual classroom make-up.
The money arrived in the form of a grant from the Asda Foundation and the new room will be open to parents and local groups as well as pupils.
Work will begin shortly and the school expects it to be ready for the time the children come back after their summer break.
The school’s business manager, Fiona Adams, was delighted that St Paul’s had the backing to push ahead with its ambitious plans.
She said: “We owe a big thank you to the Asda Foundation because obviously without it we would not be able to build the new community room.
“It will be a real boost for the school and we can’t wait to see it open and being used.
“The pupils are very excited about coming back and seeing what has been done.”
