A DRUNKEN thug punched the windscreen of a car while a woman sat inside near Warrior Square railway station.
The attack happened on Saturday June 9 between 4pm and 5pm.
The man shouted at the woman, who he knew, before punching the screen causing it to crack.
He then left the scene but returned a short time later and took the keys from the car and dangled them over a drain.
When she tried to grab them from him he pushed her causing her to stumble to the ground. She was not injured.
A man passing by then intervened to see if the victim had been harmed and the suspect began shouting abuse at both of them. The victim then drove away along Western Road.
It was a busy Saturday afternoon and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
PC Rhys Powell said: “We are appealing for the man who came to the assistance of the victim to come forward and any other witnesses.
“This was a distressing ordeal for the woman. Anyone with information should call Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1213 of 9/06.”
Alternatively witnesses can call Crimestoppers on 0800 111 555.
