Driver “feared for his life” during A21 ordeal

A DRIVER has been arrested after he allegedly tried to ram another motorist off the road.

The 21-year-old man from St Leonards was held after another driver reported that someone was chasing him down the A21 and trying to smash into his car.

The 20-year-old victim - who does not wish to be named - tried to turn off the road but the Ford Mondeo followed his Peugeot down country lanes near Hawkhurst. When they rejoined the A21 near Robertsbridge, the car smashed into him sending him skidding sidewards, and while he was on the phone to the police he was hit again.

He said: “I was frightened for my life. The roads were damp and I could have spun off. I was on my own in the car, thank God. I would not want a passenger in the car when that was going on .”

Several police cars attended the scene and stopped a Mondeo near the John’s Cross roundabout. A man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving and driving without a licence and was bailed until March. Police want to hear from anyone on the A21 between 11.45pm and 12.20 am last Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Witnesses should call PC Mark Austen on 0845 6070999.
