SEARCH for a cash prize and discover St Leonards’ hidden gems as part of a weekly treasure hunt.

This is the brainchild of Ali Godarzi, the man behind the online “St Leonards Community”.

His aim is to encourage local people to explore the rich history of St Leonards and at the same time support local businesses.

He said: “If people find the money, the request is that they spend it in St Leonards to generate income.

“The idea is for people to explore the town and find out about the stories behind the buildings.”

The treasure hunt is sponsored by the security firm at which Ali works, UK Security Force, which has a branch in St Leonards.

Each Sunday, a £5 note will be hidden in a secret location somewhere in iSt Leonards, and a photograph taken no more than five metres from the prize will be posted on the St Leonards Community Facebook page.

Sharp-eyed treasure hunters will then have until the following Tuesday to track down the cash.

Anyone who finds the hidden £5 is asked to either send Ali a message, or leave a post on the Facebook page, then spend the money locally.

If nobody finds it by Tuesday, the amount is added to the pot for the following week.

Now in its fourth week, nobody has as yet found the treasure, so the prize total for this coming Sunday will be £20.

“The whole idea behind it is meeting people, and creating a little bit of fun and entertainment,” Ali said.

The treasure will be hidden in a different location each week. Visit the “St Leonards Community” Facebook page on Sunday for this week’s clue, at www.facebook.com/groups/314515571947222/.
