Dementia charity is recruiting befrienders in Hastings

A DEMENTIA charity is set to launch a recruitment drive in the town.

The Alzheimer’s Society is hoping to find new volunteers who can help with its work in Hastings and surrounding areas.

The charity is particularly keen to recruit volunteer befrienders to help combat the isolation the condition can bring by supporting people living with dementia to take part in social and recreational activities in their local community.

Potential volunteers are invited to attend a drop-in coffee morning at St Mary in the Castle, in Pelham Crescent, on Thursday, October 3, between 10am and 2pm.

Local staff will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions about the range of opportunities on offer in the local area.

Sarah Neighbour, Alzheimer’s Society befriending manager for East Sussex, said: “Life doesn’t stop when a person is diagnosed with dementia.

“People often still want to do the things they enjoyed doing before.

“Our befriending service offers the perfect opportunity for volunteers to help people with dementia to continue to feel a part of their community.”
