CAMPAIGNERS have announced a rally to coincide with a day of strikes slated for next Thursday (June 30).
About 750,000 public sector workers are expected to walk out that day, closing schools, the job centre, the driving test centre and Hastings Magistrates Court.
Hastings Against the Cuts (HATC) is organising a public meeting at the White Rock Theatre at 10.30am - with speakers from the key unions involved - followed by an open air demonstration in Robertson Street at noon. There will then be a family picnic in Alexandra Park, weather permitting.
The unions are striking in a row over their pensions and Sam Buckley of HATC said: “The Government plans for changes to pensions will leave public sector workers - nearly half of Hastings’s working population - worse off by a day’s pay per month on average.”
