WAR veterans have announced the date of this year’s annual Armed Forces Day event.
It will be in Alexandra Park on Sunday, July 1.
Taking part in the annual parade are servicemen, women and youngsters from the cadet units.
Leading the parade for the very first time are the band of the Princess Of Wales Royal Regiment.
During the event, organised by Hastings and St Leonards Veterans Association, there will be a drumhead service conducted by the association chaplain, the Rev Robert Featherstone with the inspection and salute being taken by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Major General John Moore-Bick RE.
As well as the Victorian funfare and other stalls, including military surplus, military vehicle enthusiasts are taking part and a local ex-service radio station will be on hand to hopefully link up live with service personnel in Afghanistan. Other displays taking part are the Acromax display team, the annual cadet field gun competition and tug-o-war between serving personnel.
Entry to the Armed Forces Day event is free.
The association has also organised a veterans’ dinner dance for Wednesday, June 27. For full details or to book a pitch on the day contact the honorary secretary on 07967 860838.
