Witness appeal after attempted robbery in Hastings

Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery in York Gardens, Hastings, which happened at about 6.20pm on Tuesday (21 April).

A 46-year-old woman who had just left Costa Coffee to walk through the alleyway, York Gardens, was approached by a man who tried to snatch her handbag.

The victim was dragged to the ground and suffered cuts and hands and knees but refused to yield.

Her attacker then ran off.

Detective Constable Julian Stokes, of Hastings CID, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who may have other information about this incident.

“The offender is described as a white man wearing a distinctive red, long-sleeved top, blue jeans and brown shoes.

“He had stubble on his face and was heavily tanned.”

A 44-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery has been released on bail until June 25 while enquiries continue.
