Unemployed man caught drink driving

A JOBLESS man was caught drink driving after a night out.

Guy Dennis, 35, of Charles Road, St Leonards, had not eaten for two days before going out on March 13 with friends.

At a court hearing on Monday, Mark Kateley, prosecuting, said police saw Dennis’s Vauxhall Astra being driven erratically along Albert Road so pulled him over.

“They could immediately smell alcohol on him,” he said.

The court heard Dennis had 101 mcg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of drink driving when he appeared in the dock on Monday, March 28.

Ronan Crummy, defending, said: “The defendant has no previous convictions of a similar nature. He had gone out for a social evening and drank too much.

“He had not been eating for a couple of days because of his suffering from depression and anxiety problems.

“He made a very bad decision to drive home.”

Magistrates imposed a six-month community order on Dennis and banned him from driving for two years.
