Two arrests over college site thefts

TWO teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of stealing metal from the old college site in St Leonards.

The men - aged 17 and 18 - were seized after police received a tip-off from a neighbour living near the Archery Road site. Local residents have long complained that the area has become a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour since the college moved to its new Station Plaza campus, and police and the owners Gladedale had vowed to crackdown on the problems there.

After the arrests, officers seized a quantity of metal they believe was going to be sold for scrap - this has now been sent off for forensic testing.

The two suspects have been bailed and will return to speak to police next month.
