A THIEF who took lager from a shop has been sentenced to 24 weeks in prison.

Dean Ellis, 24, of Beecham Place, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and two breaches of a court order, when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on September 6.

Ellis was spotted by local PCSO Darren Fox whilst he was on bicycle patrol in Coventry Road, St Leonards on September 5.

He was wanted in connection with two thefts of cases of Stella Artois lager from a local shop in Blackman Avenue on August 15 and again on August 28.

PCSO Fox said: “Ellis has caused problems for the shop with his stealing. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. I hope he will think twice about stealing again when he is released from prison.”
