A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been warned he could go to prison.
Aaron Croft, 22, of Devonshire Road, pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of perfume from Superdrug, in Priory Meadow, when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court recently.
Jeremy King, prosecuting, said he left the store without paying for the two bottles, worth £49.98, on June 15.
He added: “He has a number of similar previous convictions and was sent to prison last year for theft. He was given a community order in May for shoplifting.”
Ronan Crummy, defending, said: “He committed this offence to buy heroin.
“He has used heroin for four or more years. He is an addict and this offence cannot be seen as a huge surprise.
“He is committed to completing his community order, even though it has got off to a shaky start.”
Magistrates adjourned sentencing until July 14 to allow him to comply with a drugs rehabilitation order.
Chairman of the bench Godfrey Daniel warned him: “If you do not comply with the order you will not pass go – you will go straight to prison.”
