AN UNEMPLOYED man banned from town centre stores because of repeated shoplifting, has once again been jailed for the same offence.

Michael Reid, 50, of Devonshire Road, was arrested on Wednesday, September 28, after stealing food and drink worth £37.36 from Marks and Spencer, Priory Meadow.

He had previously been banned from the shop under the Hastings and St Leonards Shopwatch scheme.

PS Che Donald of the neighbourhood policing team for Hastings town centre, said: “Reid, a prolific offender, was only released from prison a week ago and was being monitored by the local community policing team.

“They dealt with him as soon as he committed a new offence and they are to be congratulated for immediately addressing his further offending.”

Reid pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrates, and was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison.
