POLICE investigating the alleged rape of a teenage girl in the Old Town have this week released an e-fit of a man they want to trace.

On March 13, a 14-year-old girl reported a rape, which she said happened on Valentine’s Day in Russell Court, just off West Street.

Detective Constable Chris Varrall, who is investigating, said: “The girl says it happened between 11pm on February 14 and 2am on February 15 and we believe that there would have been many people out in the area in restaurants and pubs.

“We are studying CCTV and are making enquiries locally as part of our investigation.

“She describes the man whose e-fit we are publishing this week as white, of medium/skinny build with a belly.

“He had slight stubble on his face, brown messy hair, which was short and slicked back.

“The man was scruffy and wore a dark coloured hoody and tracksuit bottoms.

“Anyone who recognises the man is asked to come forward. Meanwhile we would like to reassure the public that that this is an isolated incident.”

If anyone has any information they should contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1549 of March 13, Operation Melba.
