POLICE have announced a crackdown on youngsters brandishing BB guns on the streets of 1066 Country.
Officers are warning of the dangerous consequences of carrying BB or similar spring-loaded guns, as it is sometimes difficult to tell them apart from the real thing. Incidents involving fake guns have been increasing across Sussex, particularly among younger people, and Inspector Lloyd Balfour, of Sussex Police’s Tactical Firearms Unit, said: “Anyone carrying or using one of these weapons in public could find themselves confronted by armed police officers.”
It is against the law to carry a loaded BB gun in public and they should not be visible if being transported.
Anyone caught doing so could receive a £5,000 fine, six months in prison or both.
