A TEENAGER riding a mini-motorcycle was involved in a police chase around St Leonards.
The chase ensued after an unmarked police car spotted 18-year-old Romany Burns driving the tiny machine without a helmet at the junction of Gillsmans Hill and The Green at 3pm on April 13.
Burns, of Warrior Square, pleaded guilty to a string of charges when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court last week, including driving without due care or attention, having no insurance, not wearing protective headgear, failing to stop and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.
He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a small amount of cannabis.
Mark Kateley, prosecuting, said: “He was spotted by police in an unmarked car and tried to evade them.
“At one stage he drove down an alley in an attempt to throw them off.
“He only stopped when an officer threw a baton at him. He ran off on foot but was caught.
“He had a small amount of cannabis on him consistent with personal use.
Ronan Crummy, defending, said: “He told the police about the cannabis before they searched him.
“He had the bike for a while and this was the first time he had ridden it.
“The temptation became too much and he took it out for a spin. He admits it was a pretty stupid thing to do.”
Magistrates fined him £25 for possession of cannabis and banned him from driving for four months, endorsing his licence.
He was fined £200 for having no insurance.
