A ROBBER jailed for the manslaughter of a Royal Navy veteran who went on the run after being granted home leave from prison has been found and arrested.

Raymond Atkins, 39, an inmate at Blantyre House Prison in Goudhurst, Kent, was arrested in Hastings yesterday (Thursday) evening.

He was given home leave for family reasons but breached the conditions of his licence by not staying in the hostel allocated to him in Brighton.

Atkins was last seen in St George’s Road, Hastings, on Saturday, June 30, before being arrested yesterday.

Atkins, formally of Albert Road, Bexhill, was convicted of both robbery and manslaughter by a jury after an 11-day trial at Lewes Crown Court in April 2006 and jailed for life.

A judge ordered he serve a minimum of five years.

A 51 year-old woman was also arrested yesterday on suspicion of harbouring a person unlawfully at large and remains in police custody.
