A CZECH man stole clothes from a shop so he could look smart for job interviews.
Petr Kucaba, 24, of Bohemia Road, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court last Thursday.
Jeremy King, prosecuting, said: “He went into Peacocks, in the town centre on the afternoon of April 8 and was seen to be carrying a large sports bag.
“CCTV in the shop showed him selecting items of clothing then disappearing into the changing room and leaving with them in his bag.
“He was arrested shortly after and made full admission to police. He has no previous convictions.”
Ronan Crummy, defending, said: “He comes from the Czech Republic and has been here for five years.
“He was employed in a decent job but has been unemployed for 18 months now.
“He works occasionally as a cleaner for an agency and gets as little as £18 some weeks.
“He stole the clothes to wear for job interviews as he wanted to look clean and presentable.”
Magistrates gave Kucaba a six-month conditional discharge.
