AN angry man smashed a pub window with a shovel.
Gareth Baskerville, 31, of Manor Road, was at home when someone threw something at his front door.
At a court hearing on July 18, Jeremy King, prosecuting, said Baskerville then walked across the street to The Lord Warden pub to ask who had thrown the object at his door.
When no one could help him he returned home, fetched a shovel then smashed a window at the pub, causing £80 worth of damage.
Police were called and they arrested Baskerville following the act, which happened on July 4.
Baskerville pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared in the dock in court.
Representing himself, he said: “It was a lapse in judgement. I was a bit short-tempered and just snapped the way I did and apologise. There was no excuse.”
Magistrates gave Baskerville a 12 month conditional discharge, ordered £80 compensation and £40 court costs.
