Knifeman threatens shopkeeper and steals £500 in goods

A KNIFE wielding robber threatened a shopkeeper with a large blade before making off with £500 worth of cigarettes, lighters and cash.

Police are hunting the thief after the raid on the Best One shop in Old London Road on Tuesday at around 5.50pm.

During his get-away, the man dropped a wad of cash which was found by a passing driver and returned to the shop.

However, police are still intent on tracking him down.

Sergeant Rebecca Bayley, of Hastings CID, said: “This was a very bold and nasty attack in broad daylight.

“The shopkeeper was lucky that he was not seriously injured by the large knife which was pointed at his abdomen.”

The thief is described as white, aged between 30 and 35, 5ft 5ins and of thin build. He was wearing a dark green or black hoodie, with a black top over it, blue jeans and dark sports shoes and some kind of black material covering his face.
