A 53-year-old woman was arrested in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, June 7) after dozens of sites were daubed with political graffiti in Hastings.

A passer-by alerted police to someone writing graffiti on buildings in Hastings town centre at 3.49am on Wednesday morning (June 7).

A CCTV operator tracked the woman as she moved through the town, before she was stopped and arrested just after 4am. It was later established that at least 30 sites had been daubed with political graffiti in a chalk pen, many of them multiple times and including at least two CCTV camera locations.

The incident is not being linked to a series of painted graffiti attacks in the town last month, which is still being investigated by police.

Katherine Douglas, unemployed, of Hughenden Road, Hastings, has since been charged with 12 counts of criminal damage and one of possessing cannabis, a class B controlled drug. She has been bailed to appear before Hastings magistrates on Wednesday, June 21.
