A SINGLE mother who appeared in court after stealing two packets of cigarettes was told by magistrates she needs to consider her child’s future.
Louise Allen, 19, of Pinders Road, pleaded guilty to theft of two packets of Mayfair cigarettes from the Best One store in Old London Road, when she appeared before Hastings magistrates recently.
Mark Kately, prosecuting, said Allen had put her card in the machine to pay for the cigarettes, but removed it before the transaction had gone through.
Aidan Harvey, defending, said that she had cooperated fully with the police.
Allen, who had breached the terms of a conditional discharge given to her for a similar offence 11 months ago, was ordered to hand overtotal of £124.18, including £12.18 compensation for the cigarettes.
Chairman of the bench Chris Hamson told her: “You are a mother now so you have got to take into account your child’s welfare.”
