THREE motorists were fined after police caught them using their mobile phones while driving in icy conditions.
They were all stopped in separate incidents in Hastings on Friday while the road surfaces were covered in snow and ice.
One was steering a van while having a chat on his phone and another was talking to someone on their mobile while driving their car with one hand. Another driver was behind an articulated lorry, driving on icy slippery roads, while making a mobile call.
All three were fined £60 and given three penalty points on their driving licence.
Sergeant Matt Presland said: “Using a phone while driving is a criminal offence and it is also highly distracting and dangerous. I find it incredible that these three drivers thought they would chat on their phones while driving over snow and ice.”
Drivers can report others who use their handsets while driving by visiting the Operation Crackdown website at www.operationcrackdown.org or they can call Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999.
