A LATVIAN man was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit after being stopped by police at 8.30am.
Factory worker Vitalijs Bojaruns had been out celebrating his birthday the night before Hastings Magistrates Court heard.
Bojaruns, 33, of West Hill Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.
Jeremy King, prosecuting, told the court: “His red Hyundai was stopped by police at Carlisle Parade at 8.30am on October 26. after it seemed to cross over the white lines in the centre of the road.
“They noticed that he smelled strongly of alcohol. His breath measured 80 microgrammes of alcohol, the legal limit being 35.
“He has no previous convictions.”
Mark Glendenning, defending, said: “He had been with friends celebrating his birthday the night before. He was not working on that day but had dropped his friend off at the factory.
“He thought he was fit to drive, but that was an error of judgement and he regrets making that decision.”
Magistrates banned Bojaruns from driving for 20 months and fined him £250.
