A MAN has been jailed for three years after stealing a laptop from a mental health centre.
Christopher White, 21, unemployed, of Thomas Brassey Close, St Leonards, was found guilty of burglary following a trial at Lewes Crown Court last Friday (October 26).
On July 14, police received a report that a laptop computer had been stolen from a resident at the Lighthouse Centre, in London Road, St Leonards.
The burglar had entered through an open ground floor window.
White was arrested on suspicion of burglary shortly after and appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court.
He was remanded to appear at Lewes Crown Court for trial, where he was subsequently sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
Detective sergeant Jason Tuck said: “This sends a very clear message to anyone inclined towards burglary that we will catch you and you’re very likely to end up in prison.
“Homeowners should be aware that the nights are drawing in. It’s time to double check that your home is secure and if you’re not going to be in, remember to leave lights and maybe a radio on to deter any potential burglars.
“Time switches can be useful, but make sure that you vary them regularly and use them in rooms that can’t be peered into through open curtains.”
