A PENSIONER had her bag stolen from her house during a distraction burglary.
The 82-year-old, from Elphinstone Avenue, answered her door on Friday evening at around 7.15pm to a woman who said she was very cold and wanted to use her toilet.
She then asked for a cup of tea but then stole the pensioner’s handbag as she left.
Detective Sergeant Rebecca Bayley said: “This is a despicable act on an elderly lady who showed kindness to a stranger calling at her door. I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and remembers seeing anything suspicious, to please contact the police immediately.”
The woman was white, 5ft 3ins tall, in her 30s, medium build and had very long black hair.
She had an untidy appearance and was wearing a waist-length jacket and green jumper and spoke with a local accent.
Police said she may have been in the company of a black man who was seen outside the victim’s house.
He was 5ft 7ins, medium build, in his early 20s and wore a grey tracksuit with Adidas-style stripes on it and a hood.
Police have been conducting house-to-house enquiries in the area.
