Audacious break-in

THOUSANDS of pounds worth of cigarettes were taken after an audacious break-in at a newsagents this week.

Huffy’s in Havelock Road was targeted overnight on Monday when thieves broke into the rear stairwell after smashing through a wall in Middle Street. They then broke into a cigarette cabinet and took £7,000 worth of stock, as well as £94 in cash.

PC Liz Brunt of Hastings Police believes they may have been disturbed as they left behind the tools they used in the burglary. These have now been sent off for forensic tests and PC Brunt said: “It may be that a member of the public is approached and offered these cigarettes and if so I would like to hear from them. I would also like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious that night in Middle Street at the back of the shop.”

PC Brunt can be contacted on 0845 6070999 or people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
