Accused had ‘no intention’ to steal

A MAN who helped push a stolen car was suffering from schizophrenia, Hastings Magistrates Court heard.

Benjamin Pickup, 23, of Seven Acre Close, pleaded guilty to attempted theft of a Peugeot car from Park Road on February 20.

He was caught after an off-duty police office spotted what was going on.

Sam Wingfield, defending, said: “He suffers from schizophrenia and a nervous disorder.

There was no intention to steal the vehicle.

He just decided to help push it.”

Sentencing was adjourned to allow psychiatric reports to be prepared.
