PARENTS got creative for a nursery open day last week, dressing their toddlers as characters from favourite TV shows.

Highlights of the crafty collection included a full Thomas the Tank Engine costume made from cereal boxes, a Fireman Sam outfit, a hand-sewn Igglepiggle, who is a character from In The Night Garden, and a Mini Mouse hat.

Dawn Standen, manager of The Gables nursery, Seddlescombe Road South, said the youngsters, aged from a few months up to three years old, enjoyed playing games of pass the parcel, and comparing their costumes.

“It was a great day, we all enjoyed it,” she said. “The children loved dressing up, and some of the costumes were brilliant.”

Last Friday’s open day (August 19) follows the nursery’s earlier information stand in the town centre.

Armed with balloons and flyers, a team from the nursery set out their stall in Harold Place on Monday, August 8.
