A young couple celebrated the start of 2015 with the birth of their baby daughter.

Rebecca Lovelace and her partner David Hayler, of Hampden Close, St Leonards, welcomed little Sophia, who was born just after 9pm on New Year’s Day at the Conquest Hospital.

Rebecca, 22, who works at Asda in Battle Road, St Leonards, said her daughter’s birth on New Year’s Day was unexpected, as she was due to be born today (Friday, January 16) her contractions started on New Year’s Eve.

She told the

“She wasn’t due to arrive until January 16 so it was a surprise she was born on New Year’s Day.

“I started having contractions at home at around 2.30pm on New Year’s Eve. My partner and I still went to a New Year’s Eve party, though.

“However, the contractions carried on through the night.

“I rang the Conquest Hospital and was told I was in active labour so was admitted into the hospital at 4am on New Year’s Day.

“I was in labour for around 30 hours before Sophia was born.”

Her daughter weighed a healthy 7lb 1oz when she was born at 9.01pm on New Year’s Day.

Rebecca’s partner also works at Asda in St Leonards and is the home and leisure section leader at the supermarket.
