A RETIRED couple threw a party for family and friends to celebrate 50 happy years of marriage together.
Noel and Sheila Schofield, of Keppel Road, held the get-together at the Hydro Hotel in Eastbourne.
They first met each other at a dance in Bridlington, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, in 1959.
Mr Schofield, 73, and who was born in the seaside town, had just returned to Bridlington after a two-and-a-half-year stint with the RAF in the Far East.
His wife-to-be was working as a secretary for a car accessories firm in Bridlington.
The couple had their wedding in Mrs Schofield’s home village of Middleton on the Wolds, near Driffield. They moved to Hastings in 1971 and have lived in the same house ever since.
Mr Schofield worked for Echo Hawkins, which became the Philips factory before it closed its doors in 2000.
The couple have two sons and a daughter, as well as four grandchildren.
