PATIENTS and visitors to the Conquest Hospital will have to stump up extra cash from next week as car parking charges rise.
On Tuesday (May 3) it will cost £1.30 to park for 30 minutes to an hour, the current charge being £1.10.
For up to two hours, the charge rises from £2.20 to £2.60 and up to three hours of parking at The Ridge hospital will set visitors back by £3.90, a rise of 60p.
The proposed increases were highlighted by bosses at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the Conquest, at their board meeting on Wednesday.
David Meikle, the trust’s director of finance, said the charges were increasing by 18 per cent.
He said: “The trust needs to ensure it is taking reasonable steps to secure the income required to maintain its parking position and to achieve financial balance.
“The proposed uplift in tariff is expected to generate a further £100,000 income per year.”
Hospital bosses also intend to increase the number of disabled parking spaces at the Conquest from 28 to 35 from June.
