THE REPUTATION of orchestral music in the town is on the up thanks to the inaugural International Composers Festival held in August.
Dates have now been confirmed for the 2013 festival, which will again take place at St Mary-in-the-Castle on September 6 and 7.
The eminent Osaka Concert Orchestra plan to fly in from Japan especially, and will be spending a whole week in Hastings.
Nobuya Monta, from Japan, is to be composer in residence and Stephen Ellery will be returning as chief conductor, among other well-known names.
Funding is the one area of weakness, and £15,000 is needed to put on the festival next year.
However artistic director Polo Piatti, concert pianist and composer, is convinced that where there is a will there is a way.
He said: “If you want the Composers Festival to take place again, then support it.
“I want it for Hastings.”
At the festival in August, the London Gala Orchestra performed composers’ works. However for next year, Polo is looking closer to home and has formed a new classical orchestra, the Hastings Sinfonia, which will begin rehearsing at St Mary-in-the-Castle in January.
The orchestra comprises both semi-professional musicians and amateurs from the local area, and will play a major role in the International Composers Festival 2013.
