A COMMUNITY learning centre has branched out to offer a new part-time course in counselling skills, which starts this month.

Horizons Community Learning CIC are running the Level 2 Award in Helping Skills aimed at those interested in customer care, teaching, social care, health, child care, and youth work, among other careers.

The course, which is the only one of its kind on offer in the town this year, runs from January 23 to July 16, with sessions taking place on Monday afternoons, from 12.45pm to 2.45pm, term-time only, at Flat 5, Kennedy Court, Stonehouse Drive, St Leonards.

The fee is £220, and there are no pre-entry requirements.

Manager Sonia Plato said: “We are excited about expanding our courses. This is part of our strategy to deliver good, value-for-money education, which local adults want and will benefit from.”

Horizons Community Learning is a social enterprise, which runs educational programmes, the majority of which are free of charge.

The proceeds from fee-paying courses such as the Helping Skills course will be reinvested to help ensure the continued availability of the free courses.
