Comedian Mark Thomas took time out of his tour schedule to present a fundraising talk and strike a pose for local charity Hastings Furniture Service (HFS).
Mark, who is Patron of HFS, was in Hastings to perform his award-winning Red Shed show at St Mary in the Castle.
Naomi Ridley, Chief Executive of HFS, says comedian Mark, who is also a writer and campaigner, is a great supporter of the charity. “Mark added a fund-raising afternoon talk to his tour schedule to support HFS,” she said.
“The event was a huge success. The venue was full and the audience thoroughly enjoyed Mark’s talk about his career, comedy, mischief and campaigning.
“Mark invited HFS to run a stall at his Red Shed show in the evening and his lovely audience donated generously. “Altogether the day raised over £700 for the charity.”
Mark was also inspired to spice up the charity’s image when he was asked to pose for a photo to #MakeFurnitureReuseSexy. Adopting a pose on a repainted chair from the HFS store, Mark says he was inspired by a combination of Christine Keeler and Johnny Cash. “Dealing with the very unsexy issue of providing furniture for poor people, HFS is a magnificent group,” he said.
HFS collects and reuses furniture and electrical goods to help low-income households and provides training and opportunities for people with low incomes in Hastings and Rother. The award winning charity collect and reuse approximately 300 tonnes of furniture a year. Their furniture stores in Hastings and Bexhill are full of good quality reused home furniture. Collections of reusable items are free of charge and they also offer full clearances at competitive rates
Naomi says further funds for the local charity will be raised through a partnership between Mark Thomas and the Philosophy Football website which is selling a fund-raising T-shirt to benefit HFS at: https://www.philosophyfootball.com/domestic-extremist.html
She added: “Mark is a steadfast supporter of HFS. It’s fantastic for a local charity to have such a committed, fun and active patron.”
